Josef Koudelka
Josef Koudelka was born on January 10,1938 in Boskovice, Czechoslovakia. He began as a photographer taking pictures of his family and surroundings with a Bakelite camera. Between 1956 and 1961 he went to Czech Technical University and got his degree in Engineering in 1961.
In 1967 he decided to give up on engineering and be a full time photographer. In 1968he also witnessed and took photos of the military forces of the Warsaw Pack as they invaded Prague and destroyed Czech reforms.The Magnum Agency turned the pictures into the The Sunday Times Magazine under the initials P.P. (Prague Photographer) because he was afraid of the reprisal to him and all of his family.
Josef Koudelka now lives in France and Prague and is continuing to work documenting the European land.He has two daughters and one son.
