Extra Credit For Final

1. Explain what happened to the man that was killed by the subway and how the photographer was able to take the photo.
The man that was killed by the subway was first pushed into the tracks by an unknown person. The photographer was able to take the photo because he had one in his bag with him.

2. Why did the photographer say he took the photo?
The photographer said he took the photo because he wanted to alert the subway driver with the flash on his camera.
3. Do you think the photographer should have taken the photo?
I think he should of because from the point of view in the camera,he wouldn't of been able to physically help the man.
4. Do you think the photographer did the best thing he could have done in this situation? Why or why not?
I'm not sure how much time the photographer had after the man was pushed but if it all happened really fast then I do think that this was the best thing he could of done at least to tell people how he died and to other his death.
5. Do you agree or disagree with the decision to run the photo on the front page of the New York Post? Explain why or why not.
This is where I don't really agree with it,posting a picture of somebody about to for sure die.I just think its wrong, and I bet his family was probably angered by this.Showing the whole city of New York of how a man died because someone pushed him and nobody helped him.
6. What is more important to a photojournalist, capturing images of life as it happens or stopping bad things from happening?
Why or why not?
Well to a photojournalist it is more important to most of them to capture the images as life happens because it is what they paid to go to college for and what they get paid to do as they have family's and mouths to feed. There are a few such as John Freeman who speaks about how he instructs his students to help first and take pictures second.

7. Do you think it is ever ethically acceptable for a photographer to involve himself/herself in a situation that he or she photographs? Explain why or why not.
i do think that it is sometimes acceptable for a photographer to involve himself in a situation that he or she photographs.During hurricanes many photojournalists are sent to the areas to capture video or pictures of the destruction, some try to help the people there.Instead of taking a picture of somebody drowning, your supposed to jump in the water and help them.

8. Should photojournalists always avoid influencing events as they happen? Explain your answer.
I do think photojournalists should avoid influencing events as they happen because it changes how people act,if somebody sees you while they take their photo, they change how they look and what they are doing. You won't get their actual look and how they actually act.

9. After reading the responses from the professional photographers, what stands out as the most appropriate response for a photographer to this situation. Most of the photographers said if they have a chance to help, they help the person first,if chance is given, take a picture second. As one of the photographer said," I am a human first, photographer second."

Fashion

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully) Her eyes were moved up,she was made thinner,All of her facial properties were changed in some way.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not? I think it is ethically acceptable to change this person's appearance in this case because it is for an advertisement and nothing more.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation? Yes,in the case of a drivers license, they wont look the same.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?Changes like the brightness and small stuff like that, changes to the person's actual look that are to drastic aren't OK in a lot of cases.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
The difference in fashion photography and photojournalism is that in fashion photography they do it so it gets your eye so they can sell something to you while in photo j its just for fun.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each? Each type of photography influences the other to do different things and the bars change for whats ethical and whats not.

Lytro Warm-Up

1. What did you see happen when you clicked on the photo? I saw a bunch of pictures with good lighting and they had great quality.
2. How does this new camera work? This "new camera" takes great pictures at close up.
3. What do you think a photographer would have to know about to take this kind of photo (remember its a point-and-shoot, so its full manual mode, what do you need to know about) The photographer would have to know how to have the right zoom and for the pictures not to come out blurry.
4. Is it worth the money? I guess it is worth the money as the camera takes some really cool pictures and the design is very cool.

Self Portrait Part II

Best Tips:
-Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.
-Get Closer. The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact.
-Memorabilia-You can create an especially revealing self-portrait by adding personal memorabilia surrounding your mirrored image, such as photos of yourself at various stages of your life, or anything that tells the viewer about your interests.

What I like about this picture is that you automatically know who this person is and where they work at. I chose this picture because I have seen pharmacists many times in my life and that white coat and clipboard always remind me of when I'm sick.
